Insurance Premium Tax
The chief anchor of LaMATS' services to municipal and parish governments. Some 161
locals contract with LaMATS for the collection of their Insurance
Premium Taxes (IPT) on policies written by insurance companies doing business in those jurisdictions.
Each year since its inauguration in 2000, this
service has collected insurance premium taxes in an amount greater than the previous year, a consistent record of
improvement that benefits
Louisiana's villages, towns and cities and parishes. In 2000, this service returned $4 million to its participating municipalities; in 2008, a record $15.5 million
was expected to be returned to its member municipalities.
Over the years, some $85 million has been returned to municipal entities. Participating municipalities pay a
three-percent (3%) service fee, which ensures that the municipality receives the
maximum level of taxes authorized by state statute.
